What walks on four legs, runs in a 1, 150-mile race, detects bombs, tracks, bad guys, and still enjoys an afternoon of chasing Frisbees? It’s Canis familiaris, otherwise know as the dog. Whether a mutt or purebred, the domestic dog has been part of human society for thousands of years. W is for Woof: A Dog Alphabet offers a canine course through simple rhymes accompanied by informative, entertaining sidebar text. Subject matter includes behavior, obedience, training, grooming, and health care. After reading W is for Woof, you will have a better understanding of what makes “Rover” tick from the top of his head to the tip of his tail.

I am participating in NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month-is now going on every month) for the month of April. The theme is letters.

I will be reading this book to my Kindergarten class. We will start when we return from Spring Break and will read one letter a day. This book will go along with our Service Learning Project which will also start after Spring Break. We (Kindergarten) will be learning about animals & pets and we will have a guest speaker from the two local animal shelters visit us. Then we are going to make posters to put around the school and in the surrounding community asking for donations for the Animal Shelters.
I thought about sharing the book here on my blog one letter a day, but I wasn’t sure about copyright laws and such. I really wanted to do this, but now I think I have changed my mind. Now I have decided to do Blogthings Alphabet-Style. You know how I like to play games-lol! Do you have any input, thoughts, or ideas for me? Edited: I am doing Blogthings-I have already found all but 1 letter-lol.

Memes: If you like to play, I am hosting two new memes (Scrumptious Sunday & Hump Day Humor) at my other site: Mercedes Rocks. These have finally been added to The Daily Meme! Woohoo! Please come on over and check it out! I would love to have you participate! Thanks!

Blog of the Week: Please visit my Spotlight Blog of the Week. You might be the Blog of the Week one week! )

  1. This sounds like a great book! I’m going to have to look it up!

I got it at the Book Fair this year and thought-how appropriate for what we will be doing!

  2. Either way, the book or blogthings will be fun.

I really wanted to share the book, especially with my dog blog buddies, but I don’t want to chance copyright. I have already found all of my Blogthings quizzes for all of the letters except for Z. I guess I will be doing Blogthings. Thanks for your input.

  3. Girl I have enjoyed you being home on spring break this week.

Thanks! I won’t be around near as much after Sunday-lol!

  4. Mere, do you watch Oprah? She is asking animal lovers to come together today and watch her show about puppy mill.

It might be more than you can handle because it is an awful investigation of cruelty, but I wanted to let you know.

I have chills on my arms. I’m not into puppy mills and you are right-I probably won’t be able to handle it. Patch was a stray-btw. Thanks for the info! 🙂

  5. Here’s the slide show about Lisa Ling’s investigation.
