Thursday Threesome #1 (officially)

Alphabet Soup

A~B~C

Onesome: A–ny place but here? Are travel plans looming for Spring break? …or are you staying home?

I’m sure we will be going somewhere~just depends on Jedd and the store. If we go anywhere, it will probably be to tunica or gatlinburg, but my dream is to go to the East Coast and check out some lighthouses.

Twosome: B–etter to look in the mirror before you leave? Have you ever discovered (say around mid-day) that your clothes really didn’t match up?

I do! I always check my shoes~afraid my shoes won’t match. I always feel my shirt to make sure the tag is in the back~I’ve made the mistake of having a shirt on backwards. Thank goodness no one could really tell and I caught it right after I got to work. I also double check these two things as I get out of my car at work. LOL

Threesome: C–atch any good movies lately? What should we go see now that the Oscar’s are done and over for another year?

We rent movies so we are a tad bit behind on what is new & good~we just wait until it comes out on DVD.

Hump Day Humor #1

hump-day-humor.jpg

This is a personal meme that I created at Mercedes Rocks. Mercedes Rocks is my other new blog that will host two memes for now. Hump Day Wednesday and Scrumptious Sunday. I will be participating in this meme each Wednesday.

Hump Day Humor: I was inspired to start this meme when I realized I personally needed a Wednesday meme with words (I already participate in Wordless Wednesdays). This meme is for  participants to post anything humorous on Hump Day~Wednesday~to add a little humor to our lives to help us get through the rest of the work week.  Right now I will post a theme for your post to go with, or I might ask some humorous questions to be answered for this meme. Please visit Mercedes Rocks to participate in this meme and check out the page on About These Two Memes to learn more about these two memes, frequently asked questions, more hints about memes, and Mr. Linky.

Feel Free to join in and I hope this makes your Hump Day brighter!

~POEMS~

POEM FOR MOM

My son came home from school one day,

With a smirk upon his face.

He decided he was smart enough

To put me in my place.

“Guess what I learned in Civics Two

that’s taught by Mr. Wright

It’s all about the laws today.

The ‘Children’s Bill of Rights.’

It says I need not clean my room,

Don’t have to cut my hair

No one can tell me what to think,

Or speak, or what to wear.

I have freedom from religion,

And regardless what you say,

I don’t have to bow my head,

And I sure don’t have to pray.

I can wear earrings if I want,

And pierce my tongue & nose.

I can read & watch just what I like,

Get tattoos from head to toe.

And if you ever spank me,

I’ll charge you with a crime.

I’ll back up all my charges,

With the marks on my behind.

Don’t you ever touch me,

My body’s only for my use,

Not for your hugs and kisses,

that’s just more child abuse.

Don’t preach about your morals,

Like your Mama did to you.

That’s nothing more than mind control,

And it’s illegal too!

Mom, I have these children’s rights,

So you can’t influence me,

Or I’ll call Children’s Services Division,

Better known as C.S.D.”

Mom’s Reply and Thoughts

Of course my first instinct was

To toss him out the door.

But the chance to teach him a lesson

Made me think a little more.

I mulled it over carefully,

I couldn’t let this go.

A smile crept upon my face,

He’s messing with a pro.

Next day I took him shopping

At the local Goodwill Store..

I told him, “Pick out all you want,

There’s shirts & pants galore.

I’ve called and checked with C.S.D.

Who said they didn’t care

If I bought you K-Mart shoes

Instead of those Nike Airs.

I’ve cancelled that appointment

To take your driver’s test.

The C.S.D. is unconcerned

So I’ll decide what’s best.”

I said “No time to stop and eat,

Or pick up stuff to munch.

And tomorrow you can start to learn

To make your own sack lunch.

Just save the raging appetite,

And wait till dinner time.

We’re having liver and onions,

A favorite dish of mine.”

He asked “Can I please rent a movie,

To watch on my VCR?”

“Sorry, but I sold your TV,

For new tires on my car.

I also rented out your room,

You’ll take the couch instead.

The C.S.D. requires

Just a roof over your head.

Your clothing won’t be trendy now,

I’ll choose what we eat.

That allowance that you used to get,

Will buy me something neat.

I’m selling off your jet ski,

Dirt-bike & roller blades.

Check out the ‘Parents Bill of Rights’,

It’s in effect today!

Hey hot shot, are you crying,

Why are you on your knees?

Are you asking God to help you out,

Instead of C.S.D.?”

Manic Monday

manic-monday.jpg

This is the daily meme I chose to do on Mondays. Manic Monday is a meme that gives you 3 random questions to answer on Monday~of course-LOL! Enjoy!

How did you celebrate your last birthday?

We went to the University of the South campus, in Sewanee, to celebrate the three Birthdays we have in April: Mine, Jedd’s brother and Jedd’s cousin. We ate at the cafeteria . It is an awesome cafeteria~you name it and I believe they have it. Also, we went to the Memorial Cross on campus~beautiful and a great place for picture taking! If you are ever in Tennessee in these parts, you should visit University of the South.

What’s the last thing you bought yourself, just for fun?

Hhhmmmm~A Zune (Microsoft digital media player). Now I gotta sell my iPod-lol!

What would the child you once were think of the adult you have become?

She would be very proud, considering all of the hardships my brothers and I had ordealed.  I must say, I am proud too!

Need Your Input

OK~need some advice and input from ALL of you: I have had another WordPress account for some time (mercedesrocks.wordpress.com). I just had that account pointing to this account. I also have my own domain: mercedesrocks.com~and I just had it pointing to this WordPress account too.

I believe I want to use the mercedesrocks WordPress account to create my own memes and have my own domain at mercedesrocks.com point to that account. I have two memes I want to create and start:

  • Scrumptious Sunday: where we list our Scrumptious Sunday Dinner, or a list of any scrumptious dinner, recipes, pictures. I might also have a question or something to go along with it.

  • Hump Day Humor: Where we post humorous stuff (email forwards, funny pictures, or funny personal stories) on Hump Day~Wednesday. I might also have a theme each week.

If I do this:

  • Would you be interested in viewing?

  • Would you be interested in partcipating in these daily memes?

  • Please let me know your thoughts, suggestions, views, and opinions. I would appreciate any feedback on this. Thank You!

Scrumptious Sunday 2nd Inspiration

scrumptious-sunday.jpg

I posted about Jedd’s Birthday Dinner last week and now I believe I am going to create my own Sunday Meme: Scrumptious Sunday. I found another meme with this title, but the owner gives you one item, then you post a recipe that includes that food item. This meme is just going to be me telling you what we had for Sunday Dinner at Jedd’s parents house. My good friend has given me many hiliarous Southern~Beverly Hillbillies~descriptions that I will use from time to time too. Thanks Diamondhog! This week I went alone because Jedd had to work (he works one Sunday each month).

What’s Going With Sweet Tea in Tennessee this Sunday

grilled-bone-in-porkchops.jpg

  • Grilled Bone in Pork Chops

  • Macaroni and Cheese

  • Potato Cakes

  • Green Beans

  • Corn

  • Stir Fry Asparagus

  • Rolls

  • Chocolate cake with cholate frosting with shaved white chocolate bark on top and strawberries

chocolate-cake-and-white-chocolate-on-top.jpg

We used to have a few more items each week along with about three desserts, but Jedd’s sister-in-law and Daddy are dieting-big time. I meant to take my camera and take a pic of the food, but it was a crazy morning. I locked myself out of the house with no car keys, so I had to walk next door to get the landlord’s key. I have set a key out intending to hide it outside, since Jedd and I have done this like 8 times total.  I did hide it today. Also I was returning the key, Jedd called and didn’t have the store key and came home before I left. We had to search for his keys too. I believe it was meant to be for us not to leave the house-LOL!

Sunday Seven

starfish.jpg

Here is one of my daily memes for Sunday. The Sunday Seven. I will be taking this opportunity each week to share seven blessings, joys, or tidbits of news from the past week or seven expectations for the coming week.

7 Blessings, Joys, and Tidbits for last week

  1. Patch, my 11 year old dalmatian: Patch has been correctly diagnosed. We changed Vets and New Doc did a biopsy of a lymph node (necessary to diagnose lymphoma). The results are in and it is  NOT LYMPHOMA at this time.

  2. My Granny: My granny, who is 91 years old,  came home from the hospital after almost a week stay. She is doing much better.

  3. School System: The school system I teach for just went through the new SACS (Southern Accreditation of Colleges and Schools) review and we did great! We were the first system in Tennessee to go through this with the new review system.

  4. Biggest Loser: I joined Biggest Loser at work. Some fellow teachers and I created our own Biggest Loser. Each participant pays $20. Winner takes all! We started this last school year and the winner lost 40 pounds. I had just lost 25 pounds when we started this last year~why didn’t we start sooner. Anywho~during Biggest Loser last year, I gained 25 punds and lost 25 pounds~broke even. For some reason, knowing that I am doing Biggest Loser makes me want to eat more-aaaahhhh!

  5. Tennessee College Basketball: The #1 team in the nation, Memphis Tigers, played the #2 team in the nation, Tennessee Volunteers, last night! It was a very intense game. It is awesome to know that the two top teams in the nation are from Tennessee! Tennesse Volunteers win and are now #1 in the nation! Woohoo!

  6. Mary Kay: I am also an Independent Beauty Consultant for Mary Kay. I am Just Sales! No Recruiting! I don’t work my business muvh at all. I have customers at school (convenient) and my friend that has a Nail Salon allows me to have a “store” there. Between the two places, with little work, I brought in an extra $125 last week. My extra funds have been paying for Vet and medicine bills for Patch.

  7. Staisha: My cousin’s 5 year old beautiful girl lost her first tooth!

It’s On in Tennessee

vols-vs-tigers-basketball.jpg

It’s on in Tennessee! The Tennessee Volunteers (#2 in the Nation) are playing the Memphis Tigers (#1 in the Nation) in men’s basketball in Memphis at the FedEx Forum.

I am not a huge fan of basketball but watch it often since I live with a Sports Nut! I really love watching The Lady Vols play basketball.  I have really enjoyed watching the Tennessee Vols men’s basketball since Bruce Pearl (head coach) arrived on the scene!

Jedd went to play cards and watch the ballgame elsewhere and I am still watching the game.  It is so exciting and intense! Whew! My friend, Gina, lives in Memphis~so we know who she is rooting for: Memphis Tigers-lol. Of course I am rooting for the Tennessee Volunteers, but whatever the outcome~it’s a great feeling to know that the top two teams in the Nation are right here in Tennessee! Woohoo!

Saturday Six

saturday_six-header.jpg

Here is another Saturday meme I will be participating in. This is the Saturday Six at Patrick’s Place. Patrick has a theme each Saturday that includes six questions about that theme. One of the questions includes a quiz (like blogthings). I like this meme, I just wish that today it had been posted yesterday or at least early this morning.  Enjoy.

1. When you’re going to have a regular glazed doughnut, do you prefer it hot, cold or room temperature?

Ooohhhh~Jedd and I love hot, fresh glazed doughnuts from Krispy Kreme. We always try to find some when we are on vacation.

2. If you see a box of a dozen doughnuts, and there are no objections from the others in the room, can you stop at just one doughnut?

Yes I can, unless Jedd and I are alone and we just picked up some hot fresh glazed doughnuts-lol!

3. Which spelling do you prefer for the treat: doughnut or donut? Which do you see most often?

It doesn’t really mater to me. Doughnuts~Unless it is Dunkin’ Donuts!

4. Take the quiz: What Donut are You?

You Are a Glazed Donut

Okay, you know that you’re plain – and you’re cool with that. You prefer not to let anything distract from your sweetness.Your appeal is understated yet universal. Everyone digs you.And in a pinch, you’ll probably get eaten.

5. When was the last time you had this specific kind of donut?

It actually has been awhile. I’m guessing almost a year when we went to Gatlinburg.

6. If you worked in a donut store, and had to make them as part of your job, how long do you think it would take you – if at all – to become sick of even looking at a donut?

Years ago~like about 15ish, I did work at The Donut Palace. I never knew until then that most doughnuts were fried. And to see the huge box of lard/grease we put in the deep fryer really grossed me out. It took me awhile before I actually started eating doughnuts again. Of course, that was during my major obsession with weight and exercise. Those days are definitely gone now-LOL!

The Thursday Threesome

          3.jpg

Ok~I’ve found another Daily Meme I will be doing each week. This one is The Thursday Threesome (sounds kinky-lol). This is a neat meme. Each week there is a different Three word title and each word is listed in consecutive order with a descriptive of the word rolling into a question. I know it isn’t Thursday, but I had to do this one (2-14-08) now because I really liked it!

~Tea For Two~

Onesome: Tea– leaves and fortune tellers? Is there anything you do out of habit because of old sayings? …like not stepping on cracks or staying home on Friday the Thirteenth? …or eating chocolate on Valentine’s Day <g>?

  • I don’t split a pole or anything that can come between me and whoever I am walking with. For example, Jedd and I are walking and we get to a pole~I make sure we both walk on the same side.

  • I X (cross) out black cats that cross my path when I am driving.

  • If I go through an intersection and the light is yellow about to turn red, I kiss my hand and touch the roof of my car.

  • When a clock has the time of the same numbers (3), such as 1:11/2:22/3:33/4:44/5:55~I hold my right ear and make a wish until the time changes!

  • I have been doing these things since high school. Not sure why on some, but my friends and I always did them.

Twosome: for– every time you make it to work or class or an appointment on time, how many times are you late? Just curious…

I am always right on time for work-lol. Appointments~not so good at that. I am on time about half of the time-gotta work on that!

Threesome: Two– weeks and the next day is only there twenty-five percent of the time! Does Leap Year have any special meaning to you? …or is it just one more day of the week?

Leap Year is very special to me. My brothers and I were all born in consecutive leap years. My older brother was born in 1968. I was born in 1972. My younger brother was born in 1976~Bicentennial Year!

Friday’s Feast

fridays-feast.jpg

I’m trying out a weekly meme each Friday. This is Friday’s Feast. It’s a ‘meal’ of five random questions ‘served’ to help you get to know me better. Enjoy!

Appetizer

Have you ever played a practical joke on anyone?  If so, what did you do and who was your victim?

I have a child in my class that went through a brief spell of ‘mooning’. He did it once at school, in the restroom, and once at home. His mother also teaches with me. On Parent/Teacher Conference night, Mom had received a call about the incident at home. Some fellow teachers and I were visiting in the workroom having some laughs over the whole situation and we came up with a prank. Miss Librarian went to get books related to Child’s Name and Moon. There were plenty. We scoped out Mom’s location and waited until she left her room. Then we placed these books on her desk. Then we nonchalantly (yeah~right) wiated for her return and reaction. She went to her room and the returned to the hall~where we all were. We all busted out laughing! It was hilarious!

Soup

What do your salt and pepper shakers look like?

Lighthouses

Salad

Where is the next place you plan to visit (on vacation or business)?

I would love to travel somewhere on the East Coast to visit some lighthouses, but I’m sure we won’t on our next vacation. Our next vacation will be to a casino (Jedd), Tunica probably OR to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge.

Main Course

What kind of lotion or cream do you use to keep your hands from getting too dry?

I use Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream and Mary Kay Satin Hands Hand Cream. I also use Mary Kay Satin Hands pampering set a couple a times a week.

Dessert

Make up a dessert, tell us its ingredients, and give it a name.

Make a chocolate cake with chocolate pudding and poke holes in it-lots of them. Pour melted peanut butter all  over to get into the holes. Melt some Reese’s Peanut butter cups and pour all over the top for the icing. This is called Peanut Butter Passion.

Landslide

Landslide

Fleetwood Mac

I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
till the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love
Can the child within my heart rise above
Can I sail thru the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life

Well, I’ve been afraid of changing
cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
I’m getting older too

Oh, take my love, take it down
Climb a mountain and turn around
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down

If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well maybe the landslide will bring it down

I love this song. My best friend and I always play it! It fits her to a T! And she can sing it wonderfully!

The Middle Wife

show-tell.jpg

The “Middle Wife”

Anonymous 2nd grade teacher

(email forward)

I’ve been teaching now for about fifteen years. I have two kids myself, but the best birth story I know is the one I saw in my own second grade classroom a few years back. When I was a kid, I loved show-and-tell. So I always have a few sessions with my students. It helps them get over shyness and usually, show-and-tell is pretty tame. Kids bring in pet turtles, model airplanes, pictures of fish they catch, stuff like that. And I never, ever place any boundaries or limitations on them. If they want to lug it in to school and talk about it,they’re welcome.

Well, one day this little girl, Erica, a very bright, very outgoing kid, takes her turn and waddles up to the front of the class with a pillow stuffed under her sweater. She holds up a snapshot of an infant. “This is Luke, my baby brother, and I’m going to tell you about his birthday.”“First, Mom and Dad made him as a symbol of their love, and then Dad put a seed in my Mom’s stomach, and Luke grew in there. He ate for nine months through an umbrella cord.”She’s standing there with her hands on the pillow, and I’m trying not to laugh and wishing I had my camcorder with me. The kids are watching her in amazement.

Then, about two Saturdays ago, my Mom starts saying and going, ‘Oh, Oh, Oh!’ Erica puts a hand behind her back and groans. “She walked around the house for, like an hour, ‘Oh, oh, oh!’ (Now this kid is doing a hysterical duck walk and groaning.) “My Dad called the middle wife. She delivers babies, but she doesn’t have a sign on the car like the Domino’s man. They got my Mom to lie down in bed like this. ” (Then Erica lies down with her back against the wall.)“And then, pop! My Mom had this bag of water she kept in there in case he got thirsty, and it just blew up and spilled all over the bed, like psshhheew!” (This kid has her legs spread with her little hands miming water flowing away. It was too much!)

Then the middle wife starts saying ‘push, push,’ and ‘breathe, breathe. They started counting, but never even got past ten. Then, all of a sudden, out comes my brother. He was covered in yucky stuff that they all said it was from Mom’s play-center, so there must be a lot of toys inside there.”

Then Erica stood up, took a big theatrical bow and returned to her seat. I’m sure I applauded the loudest. Ever since then, when it’s show-and-tell day, I bring my camcorder, just in case another “Middle Wife” comes along.

Finally~I have received the results of Patch’s biopsy.  For those that don’t know what is going on: Please see my Dogs Page to read posts about Patch and the up and down roller coaster ride we have been on. Patch in Review really sums up this roller coaster ride. I am going to show you the read out from the lab. There are many terms I do not understand and I will link these terms to my Internet research. This is Chinese to me. I hope you can understand this-LOL!

Description: The submitted lymph node is infiltrated by macrophages and the paracortex and medullary cords are expanded by medium to high numbers of plasma cells. Multifocally, infiltrates of low to medium numbers of neutrophils are also present.

Diagnosis: Lymph Node: Lymphadenitis, granulomatous, diffuse, moderate, with multifocal suppurative inflammation.

Comments: The submitted specimens was most consistent with granulomatous lymphadenitis. The cause was not evident. The low numbers of neutrophils might also have supported pyogranulomatous inflammation that is a finding associated with canine ehrlichiosis. Correlation with the patient history and other clinical findings is suggested to rule out that condition. I did not find any neoplastic lymphoid cells, but continued close observation of this patient would be prudent. A fair and good prognosis is suggested.

Also~during more research, I have found that there are numbers of reasons dogs have enlarged lymph nodes~not necessarily lymphoma.  IMO-just like humans. The diagnosis is much better than the first diagnosis we received: lymphoma.  At this point, it IS NOT lymphoma!  Patch is OFF of the Prednisone and has been for almost three weeks.  Doc C and many others said not to give him Ibuprofen anymore. Patch took Ibuprofen for the very first week this sickness started.  Doc also said not to give him Tramadol right now either. Patch has been off of it for a week.  Doc C prescribed an antibiotic, Tetracycline-100mg, to take twice a day for three weeks. I just want to call Old Doc and ask him some questions, but I believe I will leave it alone.  Your thoughts on this?

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers during this wild and crazy journey. We really appreciate it and you mean so much to us! I am still researching this because it is really confusing to me. I will add links when I find more. I would appreciate any feedback or more info anyone has on this diagnosis.

NaBloPoMo

nablo0308_120x90.jpg

Accountable: I was about to reply to your comment and pose this question to you, but I thought I would turn it into a post instead.

Last November, I wanted to participate in NaBloPoMo: National Blog Posting Month, but I didn’t. This year they are having NaBloPoMo for every month~to give more bloggers an opportunity to participate. I know a few of my blog buddies participated in November. I am just wanting to know how it works exactly. My curious mind has all of these questions about the whole process. Do I just post on my personal blog? Or do I have to post here and on my NaBloPoMo Page? Is it important to build my network at NaBloPoMo? There will be themes for each month, but you don’t have to post by the theme. The theme for March is: Lists. Does anyone have any ideas for me on posting about Lists? Topics or Suggestions for Lists?

I am really just looking for feedback about how the process of NaBloPoMo works and any suggestions for Lists Topics. Hope to hear from you! Thanks!

Scrumptious Sunday #1

Today is Jedd’s Birthday.  We always go to his parents’ house to eat Sunday Dinner, but today it was also a Birthday Celebration.  And boy, did his Mom cook it up right.  Here was the menu for Jedd’s Birthday Dinner~Southern style and most of it homemade (veggies from the garden) of course:

Dinner: (mexican layer dip with tortilla chips) Boiled Country Ham – Turkey – Chicken – Dressing – Creamed Potatoes – Sweet Potatoes – Corn – Green Beans – Noodles - cranberry jelly – Fruit Salad (apples mainly) – Pineapples on Lettuce with cheese and sour cream on top – rolls – and of course sweet tea!

Dessert: Jedd’s favorite~Coconut Cream Pie with Meringue (His grandmother made it) and Chocolate cake made with pudding with Hershey’s with almonds candy bars melted on top with Vanilla ice cream on the side.

Tuffy for President!

tuffy-for-president.jpg

I have been trying to keep up with the candidates and their platforms and I believe I have decided who the best pawlitical candidate for President will be~Tuffy! Tuffy is from Memphis, TN and has a strong platform that I really support. I especially like the idea of FREE pet insurance for everyone. Patch really likes Tuffy’s platform too.  He really likes the idea of treats morning, noon, and night. Of course, we might be a tad bit biased since Tuffy IS from Tennessee!

Check Tuffy’s platform~he is The Best Candidate for the Job.

Many others have already endorsed Tuffy for President, including The Aged Cat, who is also his campaign manager. The Aged Cat also has additional press on the Tuffy Campaign at “Yo Vote!“.

Check out what the Associated Press has to say about Tuffy!

Tuffy’s running mate is Rusty-from Texas.  He is pawsome!

These are all Fine Canines and a Phat Cat!

Patch Loves Wal-mart

dogintrucksketch.gif

Years ago: My ex-boyfriend and I went to Wal-Mart. Back then, Patch rode in the back of the truck. Patch usually always would stay in the back of the truck. We went in and  Ex went to grab a few things and I went my own way to grab a few things. I ran into a lady I hadn’t seen in awhile and began to talk to her. We were towards the front of the store. I looked up and Patch was in the store…and headed right for me. I quickly excused myself from my friend and Ex was coming up right after that. We didn’t say much except for “Oh my gosh”. I quickly handed my stuff to Ex and got Patch by his collar and escorted him out of the store.A man was in the car beside our truck (he was parked in a handicapped place). He talked to me out of his window and said “I’m sorry, I saw him get out, but I can’t get out of the car-I’m handicapped-I couldn’t do anything to help”. I let him know it wasn’t his fault and thanked him for trying to help. Ex came on out and we were on our way.

What Happened: Patch jumped out, saw where we went and he wanted to go too. Well~you know Wal-mart doors-AUTOMATIC. So he ran to the door, the door opened and he was off…to find his mommy of course…and found me quickly~such a good doggy! Maybe he needed to do some shopping too~who knows?
